Bruce Willis, an actor and musician, is known for playing hard-edged characters or funny characters in action films. Together, they've been featured in movies that have grossed more than $2.5 billion USD. Walter Bruce Willis was born on the 19th of March, 1955 in the city of Idar-Oberstein (West Germany) to Marlene Kassel and David Andrew Willis (from Carneys Point New Jersey), both of whom were living at an United States military base. His family moved to U.S. soon after he was born. Willis was raised in Penns Grove by his mother who worked in the bank, while his father, who was a welder who was a factory worker and welder. Willis picked up an interest in drama during high school and was allegedly "discovered" when he was working at the cafe in New York City and then participated in a couple of off-Broadway productions. In one bar it was discovered that he was spotted by the casting director who was impressed by his persona and was in need of bartenders for a tiny movie role. After countless auditions, Willis contributed minor film appearances that were often uncredited, prior to landing the role of private investigator "David Addison" alongside sultry Cybill Shepherd in the hit romantic comedy television show Moonlighting (1985). His witty and sarcastic P.I. is viewed by some as an exercise in preparation for the character of the hard-boiled NYC detective "John McClane" in the monster-movie Die Hard (1988), in the film, Willis his character fought the ruthless international thieves within a Los Angeles skyscraper. Willis reprised the role of McClane in the follow-up film, Die Hard 2 (1990) and was set in wintery Washington's Dulles International Airport as a group of rebellious Special Forces soldiers seek to return a corrupt South American general. The film's excellent sales at the box office led to an sequel to Die Hard with revenge (1995). This time Samuel L. Jackson starred as a shrewd Harlem shop owner, who was accidentally forced to assist McClane during a terrorist attack on a hot New York City day.
